Unwanted hair is often a warning sign to some health issues you may have. An example of medical conditions that can cause unusual or unwanted hair growth can be PCOS, hormonal imbalance or thyroid amongst others. When and if we suspect a client to have any of these issues, we refer them to a physician to have their condition checked first.

  • Thyroid: A thyroid disorder, whether underactive (dormant) or overactive may stimulate hair growth and cause dry, coarse hair appearance. If you have a thyroid disorder you will need to share this with us. We may ask you for your physician’s approval before proceeding with electrolysis. Note that in this case, certain areas will need to be avoided, especially if you are taking medication.
  • Diabetes: This is a serious illness and should be mentioned before starting treatment. Note that, PCOS patients with unwanted hair issues on their face and body might develop Type 2 Diabetes. In any case, Some areas – mainly lower extremities – may not be treated, as the skin goes through important changes and losses some sensation as well as the ability to heal properly. This might make it more difficult to choose the appropriate level of intensity during treatment and may also affect other areas on your body and face.
  • Epilepsy: This neurological disorder triggers seizures at any time because of a sudden burst of electrical activity in the brain. Without medication or proper care, an electrolysis current can trigger an epileptic reaction, especially if the seizures a very frequent to start with. Make sure you ask your physician first if electrolysis if safe for you or not.

We cannot stress enough how important it is to keep a good hygiene and follow our after treatment procedures to ensure a faster healing and generate better results. Keep in mind that any of these conditions, as well as the medication taken to treat them, might affect the length of the treatment and the approach we will propose.

At Furless, we care about achieving your wanted results and keeping you safe throughout the process. Even though our electrologists are trained to detect all sorts of health issues you may forget to share with us during the first consultation, we do encourage you to read carefully through the Intake Form and share any information asked on the document. If you already started your treatment with us and have recently started taking medication or have had medical interventions, you need to let us know as well.
